Biodata
- Dr Chong Yew Lam is a Senior Consultant in the Department of Urology and also serves as Chairman of the Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s Division of Surgery. A/Prof Chong is an Adjunct Associate Professor at NTU-Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He is also a member of the International Editorial Board of the Canadian Journal of Urology and Chairman of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore’s Chapter of Urologists.
- Dr Chong Yew Lam also serves as Clinical Director of Emergency Planning, Clinical Director of JOINT (Joint Oncology Innovations Taskforce), and Director of the NHG-JHSI as a part of the Tan Tock Seng Hospital senior management team (National Healthcare Group – Johns Hopkins Singapore Hospital).
- Dr Chong Yew Lam earned his undergraduate medical Qualification from the National University of Singapore in 1995, joined the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2001, earned a Master of Medicine (Surgery) in 2002, and finished specialist training in Urology in 2006. He completed his fellowship training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, USA, from 2007 to 2008, under the mentorship of Dr Demetrius H. Bagley and Dr Leonard G. Gomella, subspecializing in Endourology, Advanced Laparoscopic Urologic Surgery, and Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic procedures. He returned to Singapore in 2008 as a faculty member and consultant urologist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he assisted in the development of a variety of innovative surgical capabilities. This has included the establishment of the hospital’s first robotic prostatectomy program in December 2008, as well as the expansion of the function of flexible uretero-renoscopy in the treatment of upper urinary tract illnesses and other advanced laparoscopic operations.
- A/Prof Chong is also an active supporter of training, quality improvement, and Qualification, having arranged a number of training and Qualification sessions at local and regional gatherings. A/Prof Chong is a faculty member of the TTSH Clinical Practice Improvement Programme, where he mentors other physicians through the process of clinical quality improvement. His current scientific interests include robotic urological surgery, urological radiology, and prostate illness.
