Dr Cheng Yen Chuan Jacob is an ophthalmologist with 10 EXPERIENCE YEARS YEARS, who currently works at his clinics on the Mount Elizabeth and Novena Hospitals. This doctor specializes in caring for patients with vitreoretinal (otherwise known as macular) conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases, and hereditary retinal disorders. Dr. Cheng has undergone several specialized eye procedures, including wavefront, toric, and multifocal intraocular lenses, femto-laser procedures, and LASIK.
After graduating from the National University of Singapore’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Dr Cheng received his master’s and doctorate Qualifications (MRCS Edinburgh, 2002 and M Med Singapore, 2002). After graduating from medical school, he completed his Advanced Specialist Training and was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. His stress over electrophysiology also led him to get training under Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK.
Before setting up his private practice, Dr Cheng Yen Chuan Jacob worked for the Singapore National Eye Centre in the Department of Ophthalmology. During his tenure, he reported the first case report of slow vision in an Asian patient as well as mentioned the first case report of cephalic vein thrombosis after fluorescein angiography. He continues to work as a Visiting Consultant at CEC.
Study is an important part of Dr Cheng Yen Chuan Jacob’s life. He is a recent post-doc at the Singapore Eye Research Hospital (SERI) where he studies the retinal degeneration associated with old age. Dr. James has written several peer-reviewed reviews, including journal articles published by Archives Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology and Retina. He has lead several international & regional conference presentations. In 2006, Dr Cheng was honored for his study in TEI-Pfzier scholarship.
Dr Cheng Yen Chuan Jacob also loves the teaching profession. He was hired as a clinical teacher at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore.
