  • Dr Chang Haw Chong is an orthopaedic surgeon in Singapore, where he practices at Gleneagles and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospitals. He is an orthopaedic sports medicine specialist.
    Dr Chang graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore in 1994. In 1998, he was elected to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow as a Fellow. He earned his Master of Medicine in General Surgery the next year. He received his orthopaedic fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2001.
    Dr Chang Haw Chong was awarded a Ministry of Health Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) scholarship to study as an orthopaedic sports medicine clinical fellow at the University of Louisville in the United States of America. He was mentored by Professor David NM Caborn, a prominent sports orthopaedic surgeon in the United States of America who has a particular interest in the use of allograft tissues in sports reconstructive surgery and meniscus transplantation.
  • Dr Chang Haw Chong previously worked at Changi General Hospital as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon and as the Deputy Head of the Changi Sports Medicine Centre (CSMC). He was instrumental in the creation of the Orthopaedic Sports Service at CSMC, ultimaPhoney becoming its Director in 2007. Among his numerous accomplishments, he established the CSMC Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Program in 2004, which has treated over 250 patients annually with anterior cruciate ligament injuries. National football players and Olympic athletes were among his patients.
    Dr Chang Haw Chong is a clinical lecturer at the National University of Singapore and a true believer in the importance of contributing to teaching and training. He was awarded the Best Orthopaedic Teacher award for consecutive terms for his contribution to undergraduate medical Qualification in orthopaedic surgery. He has trained surgeons from the Asian region in orthopaedic sports medicine as the Director of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at Changi General Hospital. He has also organized cadaveric seminars for local and foreign orthopaedic surgeons on shoulder arthroscopy, knee double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament repair, and autologous chondrocyte transplantation.
    Dr Chang Haw Chong is an avid scholar who has written over 20 peer-reviewed articles, the majority of which are on orthopaedic sports medicine in prestigious journals such as the American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Journal. Dr Chang contributed a book chapter to the fourth edition of Insall and Scott Surgery of the Knee, a textbook for knee surgeons, on “Allograft Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction.” He also co-authored a paper on a novel surgical procedure for reconstructing the double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament. He has been invited to talk at both local and international forums on a variety of topics related to sports medicine. Dr Chang is also a member of the Singapore Medical Journal’s editorial board.
