Dr Chan Ping Wah Kenneth practices at Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore, and is a respiratory specialist. He has special interests in bronchoscopy, smoking cessation and intensive care medicine (examination of airways).

In 1995, Dr Chan Ping Wah Kenneth graduated from Singapore National University (NUS). He then became a member of the United Kingdom’s Royal College of Surgeons in 1999 and received his Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine. At the Singapore General Hospital, he did his Expert In training in respiratory and critical care medicine (SGH).

In 2004, at the University of Toronto, Canada, Dr Chan earned a Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship to pursue a clinical fellowship in critical care medicine. The European Certificate in Intensive Care is also held by Dr Chan.

The inpatient smoking cessation program and the outpatient Smoking Cessation Clinic were managed by Dr Chan Ping Wah Kenneth at SGH. From 2005-2006, he was president of the Singapore Thoracic Society and a member of the Executive Committee until 2008. He also chaired the Recommendations for Smoking Cessation for the Ministry of Health Clinical Practice from 2010-2011. Dr Chan is currently the President of Singapore’s Society of Intensive Care Medicine.

Dr Chan Ping Wah Kenneth held dual appointments as an assistant adjunct professor of medicine at the Duke-NUS Medical School and a clinical lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, with a passion for teaching. He has a special interest in evidence-based medicine and has directed and taught many courses in this field.

Intensive care, artificial ventilation and acute respiratory distress syndrome, which is a serious fluid build-up in the lungs, are Dr Chan’s research interests. He has written in international journals such as CHEST and Critical Care Medicine, and has regularly been invited to speak in these areas on a regional basis.

Dr Chan Ping Wah Kenneth served as the scientific chair of the 2nd Asia-Pacific Bronchology Congress in 2007. In addition, he was the scientific chair for the World Congress on Tobacco and Health, a leading global smoking cessation meeting, in 2012.
