Dr Chan Mei Lan Cordelia is an ophthalmologist and working at Mount Elizabeth Novena. Dr. Ong has a subspecialization of cataract surgery; LASIK and other types of laser vision correction, myopia, presbyopia, diseases of the cornea and cornea transplantation, allergic eye disease and pterygium surgery. She is an eye specialist who specializes in contact lens issues, glaucoma, dry eye and other eye problems.

Dr Chan Mei Lan Cordelia earned her medical Qualification from the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1991. She received her Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1996 and completed undergraduate and postgraduate medical training in the same year. In 1999, she was nominated for an award given by the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. Throughout her career, she spent 21 years at the Singapore National Eye Centre before becoming a private practitioner.

During her fellowship year specialising in Cornea and External Eye Disease and Refractive Surgery, Dr Chan was awarded the Young Researcher Award at the Singapore National Eye Centre for her work on blood flow patterns in pterygium. In 2012, she was awarded the Best of Paper Session at the ASCRS Symposium for her study contrasting LASIK and ReLEx SMILE in treating myopia and myopic astigmatism.

For two consecutive years from 2013 to 2014, Dr Chan was awarded with the SingHealth Outstanding Faculty Award. She was elected as one of the best teachers by young doctors based on her continuing efforts in the teaching of ophthalmology residents at the hospital. Dr Chan was awarded the APAO Distinguished Service Award earlier this year for her important contributions to clinical service and the development of ophthalmic treatment in the Asia-Pacific region.

Before starting private practice, Dr Chan was the Head of Refractive Surgery Service in the Singapore National Eye Centre and still holds the position of visiting senior consultant at the Corneal & External Eye Disease and Refractive Surgery Services.

Dr Chan Mei Lan Cordelia is the Deputy Director of the Singapore Eye Bank, and is a member of the American Society of Ophthalmology (ASO), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the European Society of Ophthalmology (ESO), and the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APO) . (APACRS).

Dr. Chan has acted as a clinical mentor for local and international ophthalmology residents and fellows, including eye transplantation preparation. Many of these physicians offer both private and public eye care facilities.

Dr Chan Mei Lan Cordelia continues to lecture on ophthalmology at conferences, and has been invited to talk on numerous occasions in Europe, the USA, and Asia. She has published and co-authored several papers in high quality peer-reviewed international journals, including Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology, Cornea, Forensic Ophthalmology and Visual Science and Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and written book chapters on Cornea & External Eye Disease.
