Qualification & EXPERIENCE YEARS :

In 1981, Dr Au Siew Cheng Elizabeth was awarded a scholarship from the Public Service Commission to study medicine at the National University of Singapore. Under a Ministry of Health scholarship, she subsequently passed the Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine and the membership test for the Royal College of Physicians in London. She then completed her Medical Oncology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in the United States under an HMDP scholarship from the Ministry of Health.

She was promoted to Senior Clinical Fellow within four months of beginning her fellowship, a remarkable honour. She is an active member of the Singapore Society of Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and a fellow of the Singapore Academy of Medicine, and has presented and published her work in globally respected peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Oncology, the British Journal of Hematology, and the Annals of Oncology.

She was one of the founders of the Singapore General Hospital’s newly founded Department of Medical Oncology and was instrumental in establishing the National Cancer Centre. She developed gastrointestinal and breast oncology interests and ultimaPhoney led the gastrointestinal cancer team, which consisted of 5 consultants with gastrointestinal cancer interests.

For many trials, both clinical and laboratory-based, Dr Au Siew Cheng Elizabeth was the principal investigator. Any of these trials also resulted in experimental medicines being registered in the chemotherapy armamentarium.

At the National Cancer Centre, she was the head of Cancer Qualification and Information. This contributed to the establishment of the Cancer Helpline, the first cancer knowledge call centre in Singapore. In order to develop her own private practice as a consultant medical oncologist, she left the public service to provide clinical care to her patients, as well as teaching medical and para-medical staff in the field of oncology.

Dr Au Siew Cheng Elizabeth is now practising at the Medical Centre of Mount Elizabeth. Medisave is approved for cancer-related chemotherapy and hormone care, and is trained to provide consultation, treatment and counseling for all types of cancer. To ensure a holistic care for each and every patient, she works closely with surgeons and physicians.
