EXPERIENCE YEARS
- Dr Ang Peng Tiam earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Qualification from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1982. He completed his internal medicine residency and was awarded a Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) in 1986. In 1989, he completed a Fellowship in Medical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Stanford University Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
Dr Ang Peng Tiam was a 1977 recipient of the Singapore President’s scholarship. In 1986, he received the Prof Sir Gordon Arthur Ransome Gold Medal for being the top candidate in the Master of Medicine Clinical Examinations, and in 1996, he received Singapore’s National Science Award for his outstanding contributions to medical research.
In 2003, the Sultan of Kedah bestowed upon him a datukship in recognition of his public service. From 1991 to 1997, Dr Ang served as the founding Head of the Department of Medical Oncology at Singapore General Hospital. He served as Director of the Oncology Centre and Clinical Associate Professor at NUS’s Faculty of Medicine concurrently. He continues to consult as a Visiting Consultant at the National Cancer Centre. He serves as Vice Chairman of the Singapore Cancer Society and Chairman of the Breast Cancer Foundation’s Medical Advisory Committee. - He previously served as the President of the Singapore Society of Oncology. He retains an active interest in science, having written and presented over 100 articles and abstracts.
