Dr Ang Pek Kiang Leonard is a retina specialist in Singapore. The specialist specializes in repair and reconstruction of the cornea, cataract surgery, cornea disease treatment, cornea transplantation, glaucoma treatment, retinal disease treatment, stem cell transplantation, and refractive surgery (LASIK, Epi-LASIK, Implantable Contact Lens).
Dr Ang Pek Kiang Leonard was previously a professor at the National University of Singapore’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the Singapore National Eye Centre (NUS). He was the principal investigator and chief of the visual research group at Suntec City Singapore Eye Research Hospital. He is a former Medical Director at The Eye & Cornea Transplant Centre and a specialist in luxury laser eye surgery (PLSC).
Dr Ang Pek Kiang Leonard completed specialised training in cornea and refractive surgery in Singapore, obtained advanced training fellowships in cornea and refractive surgery and trained with some of the top cornea and refractive surgeons and stem cell experts at prestigious eye centers around the world, including the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in the USA, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in Japan, and Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in USA.
Dr Ang Pek Kiang Leonard’s contributions include pioneering new methods of cornea and ocular surface stem cell expansion and bioengineering of eye tissues for ocular surface transplantation, regeneration and therapy. His research group was an early leader in using serum-free bioengineered conjunctival tissues for treatment of eye diseases.
He is a specialist in complex cornea diseases with a particular expertise in cornea transplantation (Boston keratoprosthesis). He pioneered the Boston keratoprosthesis surgery in Singapore and has helped many local and foreign patients to regain their vision with this promising therapy. He pioneered bioengineered, oral stem cell transplantation in acute cases of corneal injury.
He is one of the few surgeons in Singapore to have the Qualifications of a doctorate.
Dr. Ang has comprehensive training and expertise in the fields of cornea and ocular surface disease diagnosis, treatment, and transplantation, and eye diseases. He has published more than 90 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 7 book chapters on cornea and refractive surgery and has presented widely at scientific conferences.
