  • Dr. Akhil Chopra was a Senior Consultant in Medical Oncology at Johns Hopkins Singapore, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine before to joining OncoCare Cancer Centre at Mount Alvernia Hospital in Singapore.
  • Dr Akhil Chopra earned his medical Qualification from Delhi University in 2001. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He received his fellowship training in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Hahnemann University Hospital/Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States of America.
  • Dr Akhil Chopra’s areas of expertise include thoracic and head and neck oncology, urologic oncology, malignant hematology, which includes Hodgkin’s and non-lymphomas, Hodgkin’s and gastrointestinal oncology, which includes hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer). As a senior specialist in cancer medicine, he has extensive EXPERIENCE YEARS treating cancer patients from a variety of countries, including India, the United Arab Emirates, and other Middle Eastern countries, the United States of America, Europe, and Asia, including Bangladesh, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
  • Dr Akhil Chopra and his colleagues published their EXPERIENCE YEARS treating lung cancer patients with malignant pleural effusion, examining the role of talc pleurodesis. These individuals with lung cancer were treated with EGFR-TKIs such as Erlotinib (Tarceva) and Gefitinib (Iressa). Additionally, his publication discusses the liver toxicity of such drugs in patients with non-small cell lung cancer. Dr Chopra and his collaborators have also evaluated the first-line treatment of advanced kidney cancer (clear cell carcinoma) with bevacizumab, sunitinib, pazopanib, and interferon. Dr Chopra has published a comparison of two novel hormonal drugs in the treatment of prostate cancer, namely enzalutamide and abiraterone, in The Prostate journal, in partnership with his colleagues.
  • Dr Akhil Chopra was a main and co-investigator in a number of industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated trials in a variety of tumor types. Dr. Chopra is particularly interested in the use of immunotherapy to treat cancer and has served as the main investigator for various clinical trials involving immunotherapy drugs in a variety of tumor types. Dr Chopra is one of the authors of a clinical trial on liver cancer that involves various regional cancer centers (hepatocellular cancer). This experiment, which was published in the prestigious journal Lancet, examines the early use of nivolumab, an immune checkpoint inhibitor targeting programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1), in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma with or without persistent viral hepatitis (CheckMate 040 trial).
  • Apart from his clinical and scientific activities, he has taught medical students from the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine in Singapore, as well as medical residents and students from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, United States of America. Dr Chopra served as the Program Director for the National Health Care Group’s Medical Oncology residency program from 2012 to April 2017. His clinical and scientific work has been featured in national news outlets such as the Straits Times and Channel News Asia.
