Dr Jaideep Raj Rao graduated in 1996 from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore University, India, and graduated in 1999 from the same university with a master’s Qualification in surgery.
At Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Singapore General Hospital, Dr Rao completed his basic and advanced surgical training and did his fellowship at Seoul National University Hospital and Bundang Hospital, Korea, in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
Dr Jaideep Raj Rao was the senior consultant and head of Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s upper gastrointestinal and limited access surgery unit. He was also the head of the hospital’s bariatric surgery programme.
Dr Jaideep Raj Rao is also one of the founding members and former president of the Singapore Society of Obesity and Metabolic Surgery (OMSSS), and president of the Singapore Hernia Society. He is also a member of the International Federation for Obesity and Metabolic Disorders Surgery, of the Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA) Board of Governors, and of the Asia Pacific Hernia Society and the Singapore Robotic Surgery Society Executive Board.
Dr Jaideep Raj Rao is also a foreign honorary member of the Chilean Surgical Society, the Korean Laparoscopic Surgery Society, and the Peruvian Surgical Society.
Dr Rao has been active in teaching and is a key faculty member of Singapore’s surgical residency program. He was also a clinical instructor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Singapore National University, and at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
Dr Jaideep Raj Rao is also interested in clinical research and has published extensively in local and foreign journals, such as the Japanese Journal of Clinical Oncology, the Asian Journal of Endoscopic Surgery, and the Clinical Oncology Journal.
Dr Rao is also on the editorial review board for the International Journal of Abdominal Wall and Hernia Surgery, the Asian Journal of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery, and Hernia Surgery (Asia Chapter).
Dr Jaideep Raj Rao was awarded several prizes in 2004 and 2005, including the Health and Manpower Fellowship Award and the Outstanding Service Award (EXSA).
