Dr Koh Dennis was a consultant surgeon in the Department of Colorectal Surgery at the Singapore General Hospital, one of Singapore’s most advanced and extensive colorectal units, prior to setting up his own private practice.

Dr Koh Dennis has a particular interest in colorectal surgery, and has performed several open and minimally invasive colon and rectal surgeries. He assumes that each operation should be tailored to the particular case and condition of the patient, with minimal effect on the lifestyle of the patient. Dr Koh provides laparoscopic (key-hole), single port surgery, robotic surgery and transanal endoscopic surgery as part of the repertoire of surgical techniques (TEO). In the area of endoscopy, Dr Koh is also proficient (colonoscopy and gastroscopy). About ten thousand endoscopic procedures, including endoscopic stenting and endoscopic mucosal resection, have been performed to date (EMR).

Proctology is another area of interest that Dr Koh excels in. He further honed his expertise in proctology and pelvic floor disorders during his fellowship in Geneva. He is qualified to treat conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fistula, anal fissures, functional constipation, anal abscesses, and faecal incontinence.

Dr Koh Dennis strongly believes, in addition to his enthusiasm for clinical practice, in the value of educating the next generation of surgeons. He has held many teaching appointments at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, including assistant professor at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and clinical senior lecturer. He was actively involved in internship teaching and surgical skills training as a key faculty member of the SingHealth General Surgery Residency Program.

With the use of simulation machines, he has led and trained medical students and surgical trainees in endoscopic and laparoscopic skills. In order to teach local and overseas surgical trainees and surgeons, he has also performed several animal and cadaveric workshops. For his lectures, he was regularly ranked highly by his medical students and surgical trainees.

Dr Koh Dennis claims that patient care is not only about a positive surgical result, but also about the patients and their loved ones getting good contact. Dr Koh is a true believer in presenting patients with reliable facts to help them make educated choices about their health and care. During his time in public service, he won several honors and accolades from both his patients and management for his efforts in patient care.
