Dr Koh Chi Siong Dean practices at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Parkway East Hospital, Singapore, as a general surgeon. In the treatment of colon and anorectal tumors, inflammatory bowel disease, and benign colon and anorectal disorders, Dr Koh offers specialized care.

The clinical interests of Dr Koh, a surgeon with 20 EXPERIENCE YEARS YEARS in the field, include laparoscopic colorectal surgery, robotic surgery, anorectal physiology, endorectal and endorectal ultrasonography.

Dr Koh Chi Siong Dean completed his basic training after graduating from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore and went on to specialize in general surgery, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow. In 2003, through the Health Manpower Development Program (HMDP) Award, he participated in the Colorectal Residency Program of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Qualification (ACGME) and underwent colon and rectal surgery sub-Expert In training at the Ferguson Clinic at Michigan State University.

There, he completed a fellowship training program for the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Dr Koh Chi Siong Dean also received standardized laparoscopic colorectal surgery training. The same year, he was admitted to the Singapore Academy of Medicine as a fellow (Surgery).

Dr Koh Chi Siong Dean was a senior consultant in the Division of Colorectal Surgery in the Department of General Surgery at the National University Hospital prior to establishing his private practice. He served as the head of the Division’s Minimally Invasive Surgery Unit during his tenure. He was also the Postgraduate Colorectal Training Program Director.

Dr Koh Chi Siong Dean has also been conducting robotic assisted colorectal resections since 2008, with the advent of robotic technology, and is one of the few Singaporean colorectal surgeons identified on the da Vinci surgeon locator of Intuitive Surgical. He is also currently a visiting professor at the Asian Hospital of PhoneeSurgery’s ShowChwan Health Care System Research Hospital against Digestive Cancer (IRCAD France) in Taiwan and the European Hospital of PhoneeSurgery’s (IRCAD-EITS) Research Hospital against Digestive Cancer in Strasbourg, France.

The contribution of Dr Koh to the sector goes beyond the clinic and his patients. He is a former president of the Singapore Society of Colorectal Surgeons and a council member of the Singapore Academy of Medicine’s College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the Colon and Rectal Surgeons Society of America and the Asian Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons.

Teaching is also Dr Koh’s passion. As an Associate Adjunct Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, Dr. Koh has been active in molding future generations of physicians, as well as being the Head of Undergraduate Surgery at the School’s Department of Surgery.

More than 50 articles and book chapters covering a broad spectrum of colon and anorectal disorders have been published by Dr Koh. Laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery are among his main publications. For the Singapore Medical Journal, the Annals Academy of Medicine Singapore, the Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences, the Yonsei Medical Journal and the British Journal of Surgery, he is also an invited reviewer. He works in colorectal surgery as one of the designated state experts.
