Biodata

Dr. Jim Teo graduated from the National University of Singapore with MBBS. He then completed his training in Internal Medicine and obtained the M.R.C.P (UK) and M. Med (Internal Medicine). He was further trained in Respiratory Medicine & Intensive Care Medicine in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). Dr. Teo is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Chapter of Respiratory Physicians), American College of Chest Physicians, Royal College of Physicians in Glasglow, and Edinburgh. Dr. Teo furthered his advanced training in intensive care medicine as a Fellow at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Australia under Professor Peter Vernon van Heerden, President of the College of Intensive Care Medicine. He has obtained both his European Diplomas in Intensive Care and Adult Respiratory Medicine. Dr. Teo is a specialist in internal medicine, respiratory medicine, and intensive care medicine. He is experienced in the clinical management of patients with lung tumors, pneumonia, asthma, chronic cough, interstitial lung disease, sleep disorders, and non-invasive ventilation. Prior to entering private practice, Dr. Teo was a Consultant in the Department of Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He managed patients in the medical intensive care unit (MICU), on non-invasive ventilation, from the H1N1 outbreak and tuberculosis. He also initiated the first bedside percutaneous tracheostomy. For his contribution during the SARS outbreak, Dr Teo was awarded the Courage Star Award in 2003. Dr. Teo is currently the Director of the Critical Care unit in private hospitals and is appointed to the committees for ICU, OT, Endoscopy, and infectious disease. He is also an intensive care medicine trainer appointed by the Specialist Training Committee in Singapore and an instructor for Basic Cardiac Life Support Course, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course, and Fundamental Critical Care Support Course. He was a Clinical Teacher with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.

Dr Teo’s specialty interests are chronic cough, interstitial lung disease, lung tumors, non-invasive ventilation, and sleep disorders.
