Biography

Dr. Tan Yih Kai is a consultant endovascular and vascular surgeon. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Queensland, Australia in 1994. Between 1996 and 2006, he undertook his surgical training in the UK, completing Senior Surgical Training in General Surgery with a special interest in Vascular Surgery. Following this, Dr. Tan returned to Australia to improve his skills in endovascular procedures at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Repatriation Hospital. During this time, he also gained extensive experience in open vascular procedures such as abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, bypass surgery, and carotid artery surgery. Dr. Tan was Director of Vascular Services at Changi General Hospital (CGH) from 2009 to 2015. He was instrumental in the creation and expansion of Vascular and Endovascular Services at CGH. He was also a founding member and chair of the CGH Wound Management Committee, which initiated the annual national CGH Wound Symposium in 2016. He revamped wound care service with the introduction of evidence-based wound and the state of the art. management techniques in the hospital, which led to the eventual creation of the CGH Wound Healing Center. Dr. Tan is accredited as a Certified Wound Specialist Physician (CWSP) by the American Board of Wound Management (ABWM). He is a key thought leader in wound care and is a member of the Advisory Board of the ConvaTec Group, an international medical company specializing in skin and wound care products. Dr. Tan is actively engaged in research in the field of wound healing and has published several book chapters. He had given numerous talks and chaired workshops held both for public audiences and for other health care providers. He also participated in the writing of an International Consensus on Wound Care in 2019. He was a Senior Faculty Member for the SingHealth General Surgery Residency Program. He has special interests in venous diseases (such as leg swelling, leg ulcers, and varicose veins), diabetic limb salvage (such as angioplasty and bypass surgery), and diabetic foot complications (such as infection, wound, and gangrene), and advanced foot care. wounds.
